The Glorious, Oh So Glamorous

GAMMA NU SIGMA CHAPTER

Newark, New Jersey

Greetings Sorors, Philos,

and Rhoers of Gamma Nu Sigma,

It is with great pleasure during the 2022-2024 Sorority Years, I embark on this journey as your Basileus. I began my Sigma journey during Spring 2003 at New Jersey City University by way of Kean University. Throughout my years in Sigma I have been active and financial with Alpha Alpha Sigma, Iota Alpha Sigma, and Gamma Nu Sigma. I returned home to Gamma Nu Sigma September 2014.  I have served in multiple positions during my time in Sigma Gamma Rho. I was awarded my Life Membership number 1777 in December 2021 which has been one of my significant moments in Sigma Gamma Rho.

My vision is for us to fully align with our chapter slogan: “One chapter, one mission, one vision, one purpose, our Sigma is building.” My goals are for us to exude “I am my sister’s keeper,” for us to work hand in hand while working for the greater good, and to focus on our individual and collective goals while supporting each other along the way.

I absolutely love my SGRho and my most proudest moment was being inducted March 18, 2003. I am proud of the community service initiatives I’ve completed in Sigma Gamma Rho, the sisterhood and relationships that have shaped me into the woman I am, and the learning I have been privileged to partake in.

As we continue our journey in Sigma, I pray we will grow, work, and learn together.

Sisterly in Sigma,

OUR MISSION

It is the mission of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. to enhance the quality of life for women and their families in the U.S. and globally through community service, civil, and social action. Our goal is to achieve greater progress in the areas of education, health awareness, and leadership development. Our members, affiliates, staff, and community partners work to create and support initiatives that align with our vision.

OUR SISTERHOOD

From seven young educators, Sigma Gamma Rho has become an international service organization composed of women from every profession. Sigma Gamma Rho offers its members opportunities to develop their unique talents through leadership training and involvement in sorority activities. Sorority activities provide an atmosphere where friendships and professional contacts are developed which often lead to bonds that last a lifetime.

Greater Service,

Greater Progress

Sigma Gamma Rho's commitment to service is expressed in its slogan, "Greater Service, Greater Progress." The sorority has a proud history of offering service wherever chapters exist, including Operation BigBookBag, a program designed to address the needs, challenges and issues that face school-aged children who are educationally at-risk in local homeless shelters and extended care hospitals. The objective is for chapters to provide their local homeless shelters and children hospitals with educational materials, equipment and supplies. Other national projects include Wee Savers, Project Reassurance and Habitat for Humanity, Sigma Gamma Rho built seven homes across the United States in Florida, District of Columbia, Wisconsin, California, and Texas.

The service of Sigma Gamma Rho from a global perspective includes Project Africa and Project Mwanamugimu. Through active participation in programs and through networking with other organizations such as the National Council of Negro Women, Urban League and the NAACP, Sigma's legacy of service to improve the quality of life for all mankind continues.
