A welcome message from our Basileus.....
My name is Talia Benders and I currently serve as the Basileus of the Gamma Nu Sigma Alumna Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. We thrive on making a SIGMA IMPACT in the Newark, NJ community and beyond. We are actively in the
community creating partnerships, completing community service projects, and engaging in our sorority’s national projects. We have an annual Operation Big Bookbag event held every summer during the month of August; we have given away over 500 book bags filled with school supplies. At our yearly event, we provide food, snacks, games, and fun to those in our community. We have an annual event called the Youth Symposium in March at various high schools, colleges, and grammar schools in Newark, NJ.
My Sigma experience began in 1996 when I was inducted as a Rhoer under the Gamma Nu Sigma Chapter and worked closely with women in the undergraduate chapter Gamma Theta on various campuses. Becoming a member of the Gamma Nu
Sigma Alumnae chapter as a Sigma Soror has been an amazing and rewarding experience. I have held multiple positions within the chapter such as Epistoleus, chapter delegate, Anti-basileus, and now Basileus. I am proud to say I have been a part and continue to be a part of the growth in our chapter.
