GAMMA NU SIGMA HISTORY

After much work done by Soror Sylvia Wade from Brooklyn, New York, Gamma Nu Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated was chartered on Saturday, September 8, 1962. The chartering ceremony was held on a beautiful afternoon in the home of Soror Fannie Woodie, who lived in Plainfield, New Jersey.

The ceremony was presided over by Soror Naomi Satchell, Regional Syntaktes. The Charter members were Barbara Baylor, Ida Bell, Eleanor Bowser, Ruby Cyrus, Cynthia Hall, Gertrude McGriff, and Fannie Woodie. After the ceremony, the Sorors fellowshipped and had dinner together to commemorate the starting of their new chapter.

On June 21, 1963, Sorors Elouise McMurrian and Cora McRae were inducted into Gamma Nu Sigma Chapter by Soror Naomi Satchell.  The ceremony took place at the home of Soror Doris Frazier of East Orange, New Jersey.

Since 1962, Gamma Nu Sigma has had the leadership and support needed to make it a strong and vibrant chapter.  Since the chartering of the chapter, the members of Gamma Nu Sigma Chapter have served as National and Regional Officers for the Sorority.  Gamma Nu Sigma Chapter is the sponsor of an undergraduate chapter known as Gamma Theta Chapter, and two amazing affiliate organizations, Gamma Nu Sigma Philo and Rhoer Clubs.
